Biography:
Dr. Muayad Masoud is currently teaching Physical Chemistry at the Chemistry department in the Arab American University. Masoud was born in Burqa (Nablus) in 1973. He earned his Bachelor of Science at Al-Yarmouk University in Irbid-Jordan, in 1996, then his MSc from An-Najah National University in 2001 and finally PhD degree in Physical Chemistry from the physical and electrochemistry institute (PCI) in the Leibniz University Hannover, Germany in 2005. In his thesis work entitled “Diffusivity and Ionic Conductivity in LiNbO3 and Related Glasses and Glass Ceramics” he employed several techniques for probing lithium-ion dynamics in the solid state such as NMR , impedance spectroscopy, SIMS, and EXAFS. His work lead to a deep understanding of the grains-boundary nature in nanocrystalline materials and its dependence on the preparation method. He contributed to 10 publications, with 306 citations. After gaining his PhD, he joined Hebron University where he served as teaching staff of physical chemistry for two semesters only. In fall 2006, Masoud accepted an Assistant Professor position at the Arab American University. Since then, he taught several theoretical as well as practical courses in general, physical, analytical and organic chemistry. He has served in many administrative committees mainly during his working as assistant to the university vice president for planning and development.
Skills:
1. Investigation of ions dynamics in different forms of solid-state materials.
Preparation of inorganic materials in different forms (nanocrystalline, amorphous, glasses, and glass ceramics) by different methods (conventional quenching of melts, sol-gel, high-energy ball milling, etc.)
Solid state NMR for structure and dynamic characterization (static and magic angle spinning-NMR, solid echoes, spin lattice relaxation, and spin alignment echo).
Impedance spectroscopy (conductivity, complex-plane impedance, dielectric constant, modulus).
Utilizing solar light as alternative energy source in solar cell including chemical modification of semiconductor surfaces.
Awards:
Graduate Program "New materials with tailored properties" fellowship supported financially by Georg Christoph Lichtenberg-fellowships sponsored by the State of Niedersachsen, (02/2002-02/2005)
Three months “Research stay abroad” in Institute of Mathematical and Physical Sciences University of Wales Aberystwyth Wales-UK. Sep.-Oct. 2003 and May 2004
Conference grants "financial support for young scientists" in The Sixth International Conference on DIFFUSION IN MATE-RIALS (DIMAT 2004), Krakow-Poland, 18-23 July 2004.
AAUJ President’s Staff Recognition Certificate (for administrative work in planning and development office) 29 Jan 2013
