Abstract

The study aimed to identify the relationship between psychological resilience and coping strategies for psychological stress among the wives of the Palestinian prisoners in the Southern Governorates, and the differences of each of them based on these variables: the level of household income, and the number of years the  husband spent in prison. The study applied a descriptive-relational approach by using two measures of psychological resilience, and methods of coping with psychological stress. The sample of study included 60  prisoners' wives in the Southern Governorates. The study results showed that the level of psychological resilience among the wives of prisoners in the Southern Governorates is at a high level, with a percentage of (70.29%). As for the methods of coping with psychological stress, the cognitive reconstruction method was the most common method with a relative weight of (73.72), and the method of assuming responsibility was the least common method. , with a relative weight of (59.73%). The second result showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the average responses of the prisoners’ wives on the measure of psychological resilience and methods of coping with psychological stress, due to the variable of the number of children, the level of household income, and the number of years the husband spent in prison. The third result showed the existence of an associative relationship between psychological resilience and methods of coping with psychological stress among the wives of prisoners in the Southern Governorates.
