Master in Microbiological Sciences of Infectious Diseases

Overview

Infectious diseases’ disciplines are becoming emergent and highest concerns of global health discipline. The pandemic COVIDE-19 surge is considered to be the most global health crisis in our time and the greatest challenge to control the spread of the disease.

This discipline aims to limit or control the extent of infections spread among community associations, health facilities, particularly health care professions in different fields. Its broad discipline is not merely involved in infection control precautions, nor evidence-based practices and interventions, but it also expanded much beyond, evolving other branches that considered a foundation and advancement for such discipline as biology, para-cytology, mycology, morphology, ecology in addition to epidemiology, biostatistics, risk management, quality of health care, and evaluations to health care facilities measures.

In Palestine, the situation is difficult due to limited, insufficient resource and lack of experts in the field of infectious disease. This shortage urges to produce innovated experts in infectious disease particularly in epidemiology and biology.

Goals

  1. Synthesize and gain in depth- knowledge and clinical application of molecular biology of infectious disease.
  2. Equip students with advanced skills and experimental evidence -based practices, in the study and control of infectious diseases.
  3. Provide students with technological skills for conducting scientific laboratory research for proper investigations in molecular microbial testing and therapies.
  4. Prepare students with leadership, communication and team work ethics for the advancement of patient centered care with infectious diseases.
  5. Prepare legally, ethically and solidarity responsive experts in the management and therapeutic modalities used in the control of infectious diseases.
  6. Strengthen the student’s abilities to utilize current and emerging biological inventory, and epidemiological information systems in the provision of distinguished health care services.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  • Integrate advanced knowledge and skills, grounded in the sciences, to interpret      diagnostic test data and formulate differential diagnoses and applicable clinical interventions.
  • Formulate and execute plan of care based on pathogenesis, pharmacology, molecular biology appropriate health assessment and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Evaluate and manage high risk of infectious diseases using clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills in the provision of holistic methodologies.
  • Apply ethical principles, confidentiality of patient information, use of informed consent at all clinical practices.
  • Exhibit leadership, effective management strategies and exceptional use of available resources in the context of the control of infectious diseases.
  • Translate research into practice through activities that reflect critical appraisal of existing evidence, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Investigate and detect the mode of transmission of infectious diseases in endemic and epidemic areas.
  • Assess constraints of local public health delivery systems and predict solution to promote health outcomes.
  • Demonstrate effective communications skills, and engage in collaborative intra and inter-professional relationships with health care teams to ensure effective outcomes.
