To strengthen the basic general surgical skills and knowledge the student gained from General Surgery 1 level, improve their skills in history taking and physical examination, and expose them to the principles of management and treatment of general surgical patients, including elective and emergency settings.
This 8-week surgical rotation is an intense clinical experience that introduces students to the principles of surgical case management. Students rotate on the surgical teams at various hospitals that are affiliated with the medical school of the university. 8 weeks of general surgery, including surgical subspecialties (vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery) make up the rotation. During rotations, students learn to evaluate and manage surgical diseases pre-, peri-, and post-operatively. Time is spent on the wards, in outpatient clinics, and in the operating room.
