I, Othman Thaher, completed my primary education at Yasid Secondary School for Boys, after which I transferred to Asira Al-Shamaliah Secondary School to obtain my high school certificate. After one year, I was accepted into Al-Quds University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in dentistry.
During my first academic year, I was pleased to achieve the highest required average among my colleagues, which granted me the opportunity to transfer into the medicine program and begin a six-year journey toward becoming a physician. I graduated as a medical doctor in 2020.
To obtain my medical license, I completed a compulsory internship at Rafidia Hospital from September 2020 to August 2021. During my rotations in various departments, I received positive evaluations from department heads. This experience strengthened my communication skills with patients, families, and medical staff, and taught me the importance of teamwork and continuous skill development.
After receiving my license, I enrolled in a master’s degree in Human Anatomy at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom. There, I gained extensive experience in cadaveric dissection and deepened my understanding of the structures and functions of the human body. A notable advantage of studying anatomy at Dundee was the use of the Thiel embalming method, which preserves cadavers in a flexible, life-like state—offering a more realistic learning experience than fixed or plastinated specimens.
In September 2022, I began working as a lecturer at the Arab American University in Palestine (AAUP), where I teach anatomy courses for medical students. I also serve on several committees within the Faculty of Medicine aimed at improving academic performance and institutional processes. One such committee is the Student Assessment Committee, which is responsible for developing policies to evaluate student achievement and ensuring that assessment methods align with course learning objectives.
In addition, I was appointed as the Head of the Anatomy and Embryology Department, where I play an active role in departmental leadership and development. I am also a member of the Faculty Committee, participating in institutional decision-making processes. In my leadership role, I am committed to improving the department and addressing challenges faced in previous years, working to enhance the academic environment and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning.
