Overview

Geographic Information Systems is considered to be the hub of data collection, analytics, managing data, and connecting it spatially. This technology has multiple layers of data and information and visualizes them using maps and 3D scenes, thereby revealing deeper insights into data, helping users make smarter decisions.

GIS is a new specialization in Palestine, AAUP has developed this program for its continuous efforts in developing new updated programs meeting the needs of the local and international markets and coping with all new technologies, this program was launched in September 2014 to be the first and only GIS program taught in Palestine following the structure of Faculty of Information Technology.

The GIS Department aspires to be a leading academic and research hub in the field of Geographic Information Systems, empowering students and professionals with advanced spatial analysis skills and innovative solutions to address global environmental, social, and technological challenges. The department aims to produce graduates who excel in leveraging GIS technology for sustainable development and decision-making worldwide.

The mission of the GIS Department is to provide a comprehensive and dynamic education in Geographic Information Systems, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Through interdisciplinary research, advanced technologies, and collaboration with industry and academia, the department seeks to prepare graduates to excel in diverse GIS-related careers, contribute to solving real-world problems, and promote ethical and sustainable practices in the field of geospatial science.

Government Institutions: Work in decision-making units across ministries like Local Government, Transportation, Housing, and Public Works, as well as authorities for Land, Water, and Telecommunications.
Municipalities and Public Services: Serve in municipal roles, natural resource departments, and mapping and survey units.
Research and Academia: Contribute to research centers and departments specializing in land, sea, air, and remote sensing studies.
Private Sector Opportunities: Join engineering firms, consulting companies, banks, and other commercial institutions.
