International GIS Day 2020
“Discover the World through Geographic Information System”

Arab American University started to participate in the annual GIS Day activities every Nov. 18th, since the establishment of the GIS Department in the university. The GIS day started to be officially an international day in 1999.
Participation can be through organizing scientific symposiums and presenting the projects of students. The scientific symposiums can be attended by the different governmental institutions, the private sector and other universities.
This event is considered to be a good initiative for many reasons including the raising in awareness and knowledge on the uses of the GIS and the scientific and academic experts exchange, the contribution in introducing this science to the local community explaining how it touches peoples’ lives, the increasing in collaboration relation chances between the academic institutions and the governmental and private sector institutions, and finally it helps in presenting the achievements of students of AAUP in the GIS field and in remote sensing.
Many universities, private and governmental institutions participate in this event by presenting scientific papers in the modern sciences and fields like GIS and COVID-19, the usage of lands and energy, the GIS in serving the Palestinian community decision making and the urban planning.
