Background:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Human Resources Analyst, the HR Intern provides HR services ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work. The HR Intern promotes a client-oriented and consistent with rules and regulations approach in the Unit.
    
The HR Intern works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects’ staff in the CO and other UN Agencies (UNFPA, WFP, OHCHR, OCHA, FAO) in West Bank and Gaza to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.
Description of Responsibilities:
The intern shall work Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Special Representative (Operations) and direct supervision of the Head of Human Resources to undertake the following:

-Assist in the implementation of HR strategies focusing on achievement of the following results:

- Full compliance of HR processes and records with UN/UNDP rules, regulations, policies and strategies.
- Input to the CO business processes mapping and elaboration of the content of internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in HR management in consultation with the direct supervisor and office management.
 
-Assist in the implementation of HR services focusing on achievement of the following results:

- Help in Preparation of draft job descriptions, vacancy announcements, compiling matrixes, performing functions of Secretary in meetings when needed.
- Creation/update of positions in Atlas, association of positions to chart fields (COAs), update of COA information, setting up vendor performing the functions of Admin.HR, Position Administrator and Absence Processor in Atlas. Preparation of contracts (FTA/ TA, SCs).
- Tracking of all transactions related to positions, recruitment, benefits, earnings/deductions, retroactivity, recoveries, adjustments and separations through Atlas.
- Maintenance of the CO staffing table.
- Collection of background information for submissions to the Compliance Review Panel (CRP).
- Update of the CO rosters.
- Maintenance of proper filing system for HR records and documents.
- Provision of information for cost-recovery bills in Atlas for HR services provided by UNDP to other Agencies.

-Provides support to the Human Resources Analyst in focusing on achievement of various stages of recruitment for UNDP/PAPP and sister agencies
 

-Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the CO focusing on achievement of the following results:

- Participation in the trainings for the operations/projects staff on HR.
Contribution to knowledge networks and communities of practice.

-To undertake any other duties as required.

Qualifications :

Education:

a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in international development or another related field;
(b)Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in international development or another related field;
(c)Have graduated with a university degree in international development or other related field (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

- Demonstrated strong interest and/or academic background in Economic Development, Business Development or related field;
- A desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds
- Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose.

Language skills:
Excellent language skills in both Arabic and English Languages. 

Notes:

Financial Issues:

Internships within the UN system are unpaid and subject to conditions the applicant must get familiar with prior to signing his/her internship agreement.

The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student/graduate, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.

- Brief Cover Letter (in English) stating interest in and qualifications for the internship and your availability;

- Current and complete CV in English.

Selected candidate must submit following documents:
- Official letter from the University confirming enrolment in a graduate-level degree programme, final year of BA studies or proof of recent completion of MA/BA (the selected intern should start within one year from completion of the degree);
- Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out. Selected intern must have medical and life insurance.

Conditions:

- UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months;
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents, illness or death during the internship;
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
- Interns are responsible to arrange for their own visa and residence documents, and need to plan for these well in advance. In this case the intern should hold Jerusalem residency;
- The purpose of the internship is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies; therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
