The Arab American University announces openings for a Part-Time Optometry Laboratory Technician in the Optometry department of the Faculty of Modern Sciences at the Ramallah Campus, starting from the Fall Semester of the Academic Year 2025/2026.
The selected candidate is expected to provide support to faculty members and students during clinical sessions, operate and maintain equipment and instruments, and ensure a safe and organized learning environment. The role also requires contributing to research activities while ensuring accuracy and safety within the clinics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with faculty members and supervise students during clinical sessions.
- Prepare clinics according to the teaching schedule, ensuring the availability of all necessary tools and materials before each practical session.
- Operate and regularly maintain clinical instruments and equipment.
- Arrange patient appointments and coordinate with them regarding student examination sessions.
- Train students, supervise patient examinations, and ensure accuracy of diagnoses and results.
- Assist in correcting and updating the Patient Log and Case Presentations.
- Document students’ experimental results and contribute to the preparation of research reports.
- Supervise students’ practical training through field visits to training sites.
- Prepare clinic budgets in coordination with the Department Chair and Dean of the Faculty.
- Monitor laboratory needs in terms of materials and stationery and follow up with relevant units.
- Support faculty members in exam invigilation.
- Ensure adherence to infection control policies.
Qualifications and Skills Required for the Job:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Optometry with a minimum grade of Very Good from a recognized university or college.
- Proficiency in ophthalmic imaging devices and their operation, such as Pentacam, OCT, ERG.
- Preferably, at least one year of relevant practical experience.
- A valid Palestinian Optometry Practice License.
