English Language Placement Test (ELPT)

To maintain an international standard in higher education the university uses English as the language of instruction in most classes. Every non-native student is required to take the English Language Placement Test (ELPT) at the beginning of the first semester unless in position of a minimum TOEFL score of (500). This test ranks students into four levels (Pass, Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner).

  1. Students receiving a "Pass" do not need to register for any of the English levels (courses).
  2. Students receiving an "Advanced" score are required to register for the Advanced remedial level.
  3. Students receiving an "Intermediate" score are required to register for Intermediate and then Advanced levels.
  4. Students receiving a "Beginner" score should register for all three levels.

Students are encouraged to take English classes in the summer or as early as possible to help them in their other courses. Advanced English is counted as (3) credit hours with a letter grade. Intermediate English is counted as (2) credit hours with a letter grade. No credit hours are given for Beginning English.

 

Credit load limits for English students

Students taking English classes have a limited number of credits that they can take in addition to English. Students in the Beginner level may take (12) additional credits, three of which are a non-scientific. Students in Intermediate level may take (17) additional credits three of which are non-scientific.

Instructions for the English Language Placement Test

The LAMP test is delivered online and enables students to take the test at any time and place they choose using any device they prefer.

In order to apply for the test, the following are required::

  • Applicant must have a valid official ID (passport, driving license or national ID), with an up-to-date photo.
  • Applicant must be in a quiet place with no one else present in the room.
  • Must have a good internet connection.
  • Must have a computer with front-facing camera or smartphone, in addition to headphones and microphone.
  • The test lasts between 15 – 70 minutes, depending on the applicant’s level.
  • The test results will appear within an hour to 48 hours after finishing the test, and you can find the result by click here .

 

Accessing the Test Page:

You will receive an email from the MTS entitled LMAP EMGLISH TEST that contains th following information:

  • The final date for the exam.
  • This link to reach the exam, and each applicant will need a private candidate code to access the exam by click here .
  • The candidate code.
  • Contact information for the technical support team.
  • Instructions on how to get the results of the exam.

 

Audio and camera check:

After the instructions page, the candidate will be asked to check the audio and video quality to make sure that their devices are good for the exam.

Personal Date Confirmation page, and Data Protection Compliance:

Because candidates are required to provide their personal information to apply for the test, it is important to make sure that are fully aware of the data collection involved, and that they agree to share their data.

Data that will be asked from candidates during the test:

  • A photo of the candidate.
  • A photo of the candidate’s ID.
  • A random video during the test.
  • Photos that will be taken throughout the duration of the test.
  • Web navigation, in order to prevent candidates from copying, pasting or cheating.

At the end of the Personal Data Page, candidates will be asked to agree on authorizing data collection.

Photo of Official ID:

Candidates will be asked to provide a photo of their personal ID in order to ensure that the candidate who is taking the test is the same person in the ID.  The photo of the candidate on the ID and the official number must be clear and readable.

The Candidate Photo:

Candidates will be asked to take a clear photo of their faces. This photo will be posted on the candidate’s final results and their score report.

Other Specific Requirements

In order to guarantee that the test will be delivered and scored, candidates will be asked to follow these specific requirements throughout the test.

These requirements will be monitored by an artificial intelligent system that can detect any suspicious behaviors.

  1. Ensure to stay visible throughout the test. Do not look right or left and ensure that your face is facing the camera.
  2. Do not leave your browser and do not go to other windows.

  3. Do not use any external support such as (pen, paper, or other electronic devices)

  4. Do not allow any other person to be in the room.

  5. Do not speak or make any noise unless you are required.
    (If you do not follow this requirement, the test will not be scored)
  6. Keep your camera and microphone on throughout the duration of the test.
