English Language Placement Test (ELPT)

To maintain an international standard in higher education the university uses English as the language of instruction in most classes. Every non-native student is required to take the English Language Placement Test (ELPT) at the beginning of the first semester unless in position of a minimum TOEFL score of (500). This test ranks students into four levels (Pass, Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner).

  1. Students receiving a "Pass" do not need to register for any of the English levels (courses).
  2. Students receiving an "Advanced" score are required to register for the Advanced remedial level.
  3. Students receiving an "Intermediate" score are required to register for Intermediate and then Advanced levels.
  4. Students receiving a "Beginner" score should register for all three levels.

Students are encouraged to take English classes in the summer or as early as possible to help them in their other courses. Advanced English is counted as (3) credit hours with a letter grade. Intermediate English is counted as (2) credit hours with a letter grade. No credit hours are given for Beginning English.

 

Credit load limits for English students

Students taking English classes have a limited number of credits that they can take in addition to English. Students in the Beginner level may take (12) additional credits, three of which are a non-scientific. Students in Intermediate level may take (17) additional credits three of which are non-scientific.

Instructions for the English Placement Test

The online VTEST enables students to take the test anywhere, anytime and using any device they prefer.

To apply for VTEST online you need:

  • Make sure that the voice and picture quality are high (the microphone and camera) in the device you are planning to use to do the test.
  • Applicant will be asked to take a picture of his/her face and a photo of the ID (students or personal ID)
  • Make sure that your face will be always facing the camera during the exam period.
  • Do not log off from the web browser and do not go to another web page while doing the exam.
  • Do not use any other facilities (such as a pen or a paper …)
  • Do not talk during the exam.
  • Keep the camera and microphone on during the exam.
  • Students can take the test using any smart device, computer / laptop / tablet /smart phone.
  • In case if you do not take the exam in the determined date that was sent in the email, then your level will be automatically “Beginner”.
  • In case if any student tried to cheat during the exam, and not follow the instructions, then their level will be automatically “Beginner”.
  • You can take the test any time during the day of the determined date.
  • When you start the exam, make sure to finish it fully and then submit it.
  • Make sure to set in a quiet place alone during the exam.
  • Make sure that WiFi is good.
  • Make sure to use a device with a front camera (computer or smart phone) and to have headphones and microphone with you.
  • Test time is from (15 – 70 mins) and the test is divided into parts: listening (2-5 questions), reading (3 questions for each level), grammar and vocabulary (8 questions for each level).

You can log into the test page through the link that you will receive on your email from the following email address (no-replyatvtest.com).

To log on the test, you need to enter your own password (Personal Secure Code) that you will also receive on your email from the email address (no-replyatvtest.com).

After the instructions page, applicant will be asked to check the voice quality to make sure that the device is good for the test.

The applicant is required to take a clear photo to his/her face, as this photo will be attached to the final result and to the certificate.

Personal ID photo:

Applicant is required to take a photo of the personal ID as it will be checked to make sure that the name of the applicant and the ID name are matching. Applicant’s name and ID number should be clear in the photo.

Other requirements for the environment of the test

To guarantee a good environment for the test, applicant must make sure that those requirements are fulfilled during the whole test duration.

The requirements will be checked through the computer using the artificial intelligence to catch any suspicious behaviors.

  6. Keep the camera and microphone on during the test time.
    (If this condition was not fulfilled, then the test grade will not be counted).
