AAU Hosts Minister Qaraqe in a Lecture on Detainees Conditions in Prisons

AAUP hosted Minister of Prisoners Isaa Qaraqe in a lecture held for university’s students on prisoners’ conditions in occupation prisons and what they suffer in there.

The Minister University Vice President for Training Affairs Dr. Nizam Diab, Head of Culture Department Dr. Jamal Hanaysheh and the PR staff.

During the meeting Qaraqe focused on the university’s academic accomplishments and continuous improvement in its buildings and faculties and its students in Palestinian and Arabian working market. He added, Palestinian universities are the best place to empower national identity and belonging.

As for Dr. Diab he talked on the university’s solidarity with freedom prisoners and its pride of their sacrifices. “Arab American University lost dozens of its students as martyrs and prisoners in the Palestinian struggle towards freedom. It is a university with dozens of students and graduated engineers, doctors, legal and future leaders”, he said

He added, the university is always open for Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs to implement training programs for detainees and take advantage of university’s expertise in many areas.

The reception followed by a lecture for Minister Qaraqe at the Supporting Medical Sciences Faculty to talk on detainees conditions in presence of large group of university students and members of academic and administrative bodies.

Minister Qaraqe saluted detainees’ resistance on hunger strike, Anas Shdid and Ahmad Abufarra on hunger strike since 85 days and Ammar Hamour on his 28th striking day, against the occupation unjust administrative detention. He said, international intervention is necessary to release detainees and stop their suffering and it’s important to put detainees’ issues on top of our local priorities.

He spoke on the detainees suffering in occupation jails especially children and women. He said detainees continuing strike and not to get their fair human demands is a slow killing crime executed on them by Israeli occupation authorities.

Minister Qaraqe said, “Detainees suffer from oppressive, racist laws the Knesset presented to reach 10 laws during 2015, including executing detainees and treat them as terrorists criminals”. Adding, occupation is the first responsible for the deaths of Palestinian detainees as they treat them on criminal basis and try to undermine their resistance without giving them the minimum human rights.

There was many questions on mechanisms and methods of strengthen detainees’ resistance, re-activate their case and support them on their hunger strikes.
