Arab American University Team Wins 2nd Place at International Collegiate Programming Contest ACM

Faculty of Engineering and IT at Arab American University won the 2nd place in the International Collegiate Programming Contest ACM hosted by Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, with participation of 90 students representing 30 teams from all over Palestine.

University team was represented by students Anas Zakarneh, Wisam Arda and Mosab Zakarneh from IT engineering department, supervised by Mr. Sami Awad lecturer at the IT engineering and Mr. Nizar Shihab lecturer at the faculty of Engineering and IT.

The contest’s sixth edition was held over two days included a pilot contest on the first day followed by national competition on the second day, where international experts and specialists from Jordan directly contact the competition officials in Egypt, who will write, correct and mark the questions.

In the five-hour competition, each team tried to solve the largest number of questions with least number of attempts, using specialized system the solutions sent to be corrected directly by the experts in Egypt.

Results announced in a ceremony at the Martyr Yasser Arafat Theater, University of Palestine. Palestinian Polytechnic University team announced to be the first place winner and the Arab American University team fill in second. The AAUJ team qualified to participate and represent Palestine in the Arab programming competition, Sharm-Sheikh and Jordan.

The University President Prof. Dr. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri, honored the winners and their supervising teachers in presence of the Faculty Dean Dr. Mohammad Hamarshah. Appreciating their representation of the university to the fullest during the competition. Stressing, the University is keen to embrace creative students.
