Cooperation between SUNY and AAUJ

A delegation from State University of New York visited the Arab American University in Jenin to discuss new ways of academic medical cooperation between the two universities.

Professor Mahmoud Abu Mwais, the President of the University,Dr. Waleed Deeb, the Academic Advisor of the Board, Dr. Nitham Thiab, the Vice-President for the Community Affairs, Mr. Faleh AbuArrah, the Assistant to the President for the Administrative and Financial Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of The Allied Medical Sciences and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences all received and welcomed the delegation.

Professsor AbuMwais welcomed the delegation and explained the philosophy of the university, its goals and its future vision concerning the higher education in Palestine. He said: “the University is concentrating on excellence in all specialities since we study the local and international markets’ need for all the specialities that we teach. We also make sure to bring in the best qualifications and experts in teaching, we concentrate on the scientific research and we established the necessary infrastructure for the teaching process with international specifications”.

Professor AbuMwais also clarified that since 2000 when the university started; they paid great attention to the medical faculties. The Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of the Allied Medical Sciences were established, developed and improved through the years to reach what they represent nowadays. AbuMwais appreciated the efforts of the faculty of the University who worked hard to expand and improve the medical sciences in order to emerge unique professional medical faculties.

On the other hand, the delegation appreciated the great receiving from the AAUJ, they visited the faculty of Arts and Sciences to see the Sciences Labs, and they also visited other faculties and met some of the staff to discuss the teaching methods that are used in the university.

The delegation also visited the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of the Allied Medical Sciences to have an idea about their teaching plans especially the courses about the basic medical sciences and the applied laboratories. They met students of the faculties to understand their satisfaction about the courses and they made a tour around the university and its different faculties. Then there was the evaluation process where they expressed their admiration about what they saw, from the academic programs to the different labs to the modern medical devices and the great teaching staff. They also asserted that even though the university didn’t start many decades ago, but its determination to be distinguish was reflected on its teaching quality and this will encourage the State University of New York to cooperate with it in the different medical aspects that can be provided.
