AAUP displays a play called "A'la Al Dawar" for the Palestinian artist Alaa Shihada

The Arab American University, Ramallah campus, a play called “A’la Al Dawar”, for the Palestinian artist Alaa Shihada.

Mr. Said Abu Mualla, vice dean of the faculty of modern media, opened the show with a word to welcome the attendance and the Palestinian artist Alaa Shihada. He stressed on the importance of theater for students as it carries a lot of values, concepts, and gives space for discussions and debates. He also indicated that the experience of watching any theatrical play is an important matter and the play by the artist Shihada talks about issues that Palestinians experience at the moment.

Mr. Mohammad Sabaneh, vice dean of the faculty of modern sciences, indicated that AAUP is preparing a variety of activities for its students so they can have the needed skills. He also alluded that the display of the play is the first step in this long path.

The play is a 55 minutes’ monodrama (one actor), that shows the main daily issues that Palestinian citizens suffer from and highlights the life of those who live in villages because of the traditional lifestyle and the common concepts about villages.

The play covered a variety of issues, including elections, family relations, the behavior of leaders and parties, and social relations such as marriage and love stories.

The audience and the students were impressed by the play and their interaction with the issues that were shown in the play was clear. After the play ended, there was a discussion and questions asked to the actor Shihada and the scriptwriter Ghassan Nadaf.

The artist’s career, Shihada, begun in The Freedom Theater in Jenin’s Camp 7 years ago and after that he majored in the art of masks theater in Holland. This show was the 10th in Palestine and the 2nd in Palestinian Universities.
