Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Rania Jaser in the Leadership Program

Researcher Rania Imad Jaser, a student in the Master’s Program in Leadership has defended her thesis titled "The Role of CSR of Palestinian Private Sector in mitigating the impact of COVID-19".

The statement of the study’s problem revolved around answering a main question about the extent to which the private sector has adopted corporate social responsibility and the extent of its impact on mitigating the consequences of the Corona pandemic.

The study aimed to analyze the extent to which pharmaceutical factories adopted the principle of social responsibility in its dimensions (economic, social, moral and environmental), in mitigating the various effects of the Corona pandemic. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach and used the questionnaire as the main instrument for data collecting. The study sample was (purposive) as the questionnaire was distributed to employees in senior administrative positions of a leadership nature in pharmaceutical factories operating in the West Bank.

The researcher came up with a number of results, the most important of which is that the adoption of social responsibility in its various dimensions by pharmaceutical factories had a clear impact in mitigating the negative effects of the pandemic. The researcher recommended a number of scientific and practical measures, the most important of which is expanding future research to include the extent of adopting social responsibility in other sectors such as the insurance and banking sectors, as well as expanding the scope and adopting other approaches such as the comparative approach to compare regional and international experiences. At the practical level, the researcher recommended the necessity of good future planning to adopt this responsibility among stakeholders such as government agencies, the private sector and civil society institutions, and encouraging sustainable initiatives and innovations.

The thesis was supervised by Dr. Firas Marrar. The committee of examiners included Dr. Akram Hamdan and Dr. Majeed Mansour.
