Researcher Saly Awad Defends Master’s Thesis in the Criminal Science Program

Researcher Saly Awad, a student in the Master’s Program in Criminal Science - Department of Legal Sciences, defended her thesis titled: “Controls on the Discretionary Power of the Criminals Court Judge in Punitive Individualization - A Comparative Study.”

The study dealt with the controls of the discretionary power of the criminal court judge in punitive individualization, comparing it to the relevant criminal legislation. This study is conducted in light of the powers granted to the criminal court judge due to the importance of clarifying the position of the Palestinian legislator in the Palestinian Criminal Procedure Law No. (3) of 2001 as well as the comparative legislation on the discretionary authority of the criminal court judge in punitive individualization in terms of the authority of the criminal court judge on the one hand. On the other hand, the study sheds light on the reconciliation between punitive exclusivity and guarantees resulting from preserving the rights and freedoms of individuals related to the criminal procedures of this right to give an integrated view of the substantive and procedural aspects of the work of the criminal court judge in Palestine.

The thesis was supervised by Dr. Amin Al Ghnimat. The committee of examiners included Dr. Ahmed Al Ashqar and Dr. Issam Al Atrash.
