The Scholar-Diplomat Ulrike Shannon Visits the University

Thursday, June 9, 2022

The Faculty of Graduate Studies at the Arab American University hosted the diplomat and researcher Mr. Ulric Shannon, in a meeting with MA students majoring in International Law and Diplomacy.

In the lecture, Shannon talked about the development of the field of diplomacy between traditional and contemporary diplomacy, leading to digital diplomacy that crossed the borders of countries by introducing many players in foreign policy. Shannon shared the lessons learned in diplomatic work.

It is worth mentioning that Shannon is a research associate at the University of Ottawa, a veteran diplomat in the Canadian diplomatic corps, and a specialist in issues of stability and conflict, especially in the Arab and Islamic worlds. He held several positions, including the former Canadian ambassador to Iraq and a former diplomat in Egypt, Palestine, Pakistan, and Turkey. He is best known for his pioneering efforts in the field of public diplomacy. His name was included in the Hill Times list of the top 50 influencers in the Canadian foreign policy for 2021.

This workshop comes in line with the university's policy to combine theory and practice in the diploma course taught by Dr. Dalal Iriqat.
