AAUP Participates in the International Scientific Conference “Media in the Post-Truth Era”

The Arab American University participated in the events of the International Scientific conference “Media in the Post-Truth Era: Practicing Media Professions in an Information Perturbation Era,” which was held by the Institute of Journalism and News Sciences at Manouba University in Tunisia.

The Arab American University was represented at the conference by Dr. Said Abu Mualla, Head of the Digital Media Department at the Faculty of Modern Media, and Mr. Sudqi Mousa, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Media at the Faculty of Arts and Education. Their participated was with a research paper titled “The Impacts of Information Perturbation on the Professional Performance of Palestinian Journalists in Their Coverage of the War against Gaza and the West Bank.”

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Deeb Horani in the Integrated Digital Media Program

Researcher Deeb Rasmi Horani, a student in the Master’s Program in Integrated Digital Media, has defended his thesis titled “The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club Association’s Employment of Digital Media Tools in Managing Media Relations for Advocacy Purposes.”

This study deals with the use of new media by civil society organizations to achieve their communication goals with the local press. It aims to identify the reality of the use of digital media tools by the Palestinian Prisoner Club Association, and the trends in how journalists deal with new media in communicating with the club. This study used the gratifications theory and the concept of advocacy.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Lilian Atili in the Integrated Digital Media Program

Researcher Lilian Romel Atili, a student in the Master’s program in Integrated Digital Media, has defended her thesis titled “Representations of Women in the Palestinian Contemporary Cinema.”

This study explores the representation of Palestinian women in contemporary Palestinian films, by analyzing how these films depict women’s roles, images, social roles, and their contribution to the narrative. This study employs a theoretical framework consisting of the Bechdel test, Todorov's narrative, and Stuart Hall's representations. The researcher analyzed ten Palestinian films that won awards and were nominated at major film festivals.
