AAUP and the Ministry of Education Honor School Students who Won in the Competitions that AAUP Organized

On the Occasion of AAUP’s 20th Anniversary

Arab American University and the Ministry of Education honored school students who won in the sport, social and art activities that AAUP organized on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri – AAUP President, Prof. Marwan Awartani- the Minister of Education, Prof. Waleed Deeb- the Academic Advisor of the Board of Directors and the Founding President, Eng. Bara’ Asfour- the Assistant to the President were in the celebration along with other General Directors from the Ministry and staff from AAUP, the winners and their teachers.

The celebration was introduced by student Sama Hashayka from Talouza School who introduced Prof. Abu Zuhri as the first speaker. Prof. Abu Zuhri started his speech by welcoming the Minister of Education Prof. Marwan Awartani, and stressing on the importance of the partnership that combines between Arab American University and the Ministry. He also said that the university aimed to celebrate its 20 anniversary by participating the school students in the sports and social competitions that the university organized because they are the future of this country.

Prof. Abu Zuhri also talked about how new talents were explored out from the competitions and courses that were organized to school students, and that was one of the most important achievements to the university.

Moreover, Prof. Abu Zuhri talked about the achievements of AAUP during its 20 years in the academic and services fields, as one of the university’ goals was to develop its academic programs, the scientific research and provide services to the local community, and this all was a dream coming true. AAUP became a great edifice in Palestine and has a distinguish place between universities of the Middle East. In addition, the university president talked about the partnerships between AAUP and some regional and global universities, as this kind of relations focuses on improving the academic level of the Palestinian students, and added that AAUP always seeks to open new unique and quality programs and to use modern technologies to fulfill the needs of the Palestinian labor market with proficiencies that develop the country.

The Minister of Education- Prof. Marwan Awartani congratulated the 20th anniversary of AAUP and praised its academic and research role. He ensured that the Ministry will keep in enhancing the partnership relations with AAUP and will continue in implementing their joint agreements for all fields and programs. 

The Minister also emphasized on the importance of such initiatives and their effect on the students and schools and added that the Ministry is about to launch “Steem Palestine” program that will strengthen relations between universities. Prof. Awartani also encouraged that school students should be blended more in the universities in activities, researches and dialogues and he thanked the student activities group for their efforts in organizing such events.

The celebration also contained a fair for the students’ drawings that they drew during the draw competition that was supervised by the global artist Mohammad Sabaaneh. In addition, some stories of the students who participated in the story-writing workshop with Mr. Ziad Khaddash were also in the fair. Moreover, a video produced by Arab American University was displayed, with a report of the achievement of students who participated in the activities and the competitions. Then students of Faisal Al Husieny performed and after that students were honored.

AAUP prizes for students included a 50% scholarship for winners if they wanted to join AAUP, in addition to laptops, tablets and sports tools.

The joint activities included a virtual marathon for students with disabilities, marathon in Masafer Yatta to support the village, story writing and drawing competitions about the university life.
