Monday, January 29, 2024

Researcher Romance Shtayyeh, a student in the Master’s Program in Adult Medical Surgical Nursing, defended her thesis titled: “Self-efficacy and Quality of Life among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.”

The study aimed to evaluate self-efficacy management and quality of life among patients with type 2 diabetes who attend a primary health care clinic in the northern governorates of the West Bank.

In her cross-sectional descriptive study, the researcher used a questionnaire instrument. The questionnaire was distributed to an appropriate sample of type 2 diabetes patients, consisting of 397 patients who visit diabetes clinics affiliated with the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the northern West Bank.

The research concluded that self-efficacy in diabetes management in diabetic patients was fairly high but the quality of life was at a low level. The results of the study also indicated that self-efficacy, duration of diabetes, and HbA1c were identified as indicators of life quality.

The researcher recommended preparing specialized protocols to increase the self-efficacy of diabetic patients in all health centers, guiding them on preventive measures against diabetes complications, continuous follow-up of diabetic patients through home visits to improve their life quality, following a patient-centered approach to improve life quality, and planning individual and collective training programs to increase patients' levels of self-care and self-efficacy in addition to help them improve diabetes self-management.

The thesis was supervised by: Dr. Ahmed Al Aidi. The committee of examiners included Dr. Kifah Zaben and Dr. Bahaa Hammad.
