AAUP’s Faculty of Medicine Concludes the Lecture Series of “teaching the Teachers” Program

The Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University, in collaboration with the International Medical Education Trust, concluded the lecture series of “Teaching The Teachers” Program, which comes within the policy of the University and Faculty of Medicine for the advancement of medical education in the University in particular and Palestine in general.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asia, AAUP Vice President, inaugurated the Program with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, praising the efforts of the International Medical Education Trust (IMET), along with its interest and initiative to provide such crucial trainings that strive to improve the academic performance of the teaching staff at the Medical Faculties of the University. Prof. Dr. Asia highlighted that the University's supports and encourages these crucial trainings which fall within the University's development plans of its academic staff.       

He also indicated that such trainings aim at paying attention to clinical training staff at different hospitals, and within the priorities of the University to acquire the international accreditation in various specialties, particularly the specialization of medicine. Furthermore, this training falls under a series of other trainings that are intended to be organized by the Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with international organizations and prestigious British universities.     

The lectures were moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Malek Zaben, over four weeks. The first lecture focused on developing the knowledge of trainers on how to facilitate the process of education and convey ideas to students and trainees, together with the expectations envisioned from the trainer and the competencies required therefrom, medical education curricula and modern medical education strategies.     

Dr. Malek Zaben pursued the second lecture of “Teaching The Teachers” Program titled "Understanding Basic Educational Principles in Health Sciences Education" which focused on developing the knowledge of teachers on how to facilitate the process of education and convey ideas to students and trainees. 

The third lecture titled "Teaching in Large Groups (Lectures)". It included tips on lecturing, and how to give a lecture and resolve the problems encountered in lectures, know how to give a good and fruitful lecture. In addition, the lecture focused on developing the knowledge of teachers on how to facilitate the process of education and convey ideas to students and trainees.

Dr. Malek Zaben concluded the series of lectures by the fourth lecture titled "Teaching in Small Groups" which included the role of teaching in small groups; their advantages and problems and techniques used in small-group sessions. More than 90 persons of the teaching staff, at clinical and academic levels from the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions at the Arab American University have participated in the lectures.
