The AAUP Faculty of Medicine Concludes the “Clinical Research Education” Program in Cooperation with the International Medical Education Association

The Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University, in cooperation with the International Medical Education Association, concluded a series of lectures on the “Clinical Research Education” program. This program comes within a series of training sessions that the Faculty of Medicine at the University is seeking to organize in cooperation with international institutions and prestigious British universities to advance medical education and develop the research and clinical skills of the educational staff at the clinical and academic level at the University in particular and Palestine in general.

The first lecture of the “Clinical Research Education” program was held via Zoom platform, and was moderated by Dr. Malik Zaben, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University. He welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their interest in participation. He also thanked the International Medical Education Association for the endless support and services it provides in Fields of health care in Palestine. The first meeting had discussions of clinical auditing and scientific research methods, emphasizing the importance of clinical auditing and ways to apply it efficiently to enhance the quality of health care. Designing research in a well manner was stressed, choosing the appropriate methodology as well as the role of statistical analysis in evaluating the result.

Dr. Zaben pursued the second lecture of the clinical research education program via Zoom platform. This session had discussions on scientific research methodologies, how to collect data, using statistical tools to analyze it and providing practical models for transforming data into valuable information.

Dr. Malik Zaben concluded the lecture series with the third and final lecture of the clinical research teaching program via Zoom platform, which was titled “How to read a research paper and how to write academically and publish its results.” The lecture focused on academic writing skills, learning strategies for effective publishing of research, understanding scientific publishing standards and how to read the research paper and critically analyze it to contribute to enhancing the participants’ professional careers and encourages continuing education in the constantly renewed field of health care. The workshop had positive interaction from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the efforts made to enhance scientific research skills.

More than 60 faculty members at the clinical and academic levels from the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professions at the Arab American University benefited from the lecture series.

The discussion was enriched by the exchange of experiences at the end of each meeting between the participants and Dr. Malik, who in turn appreciated the participants’ interest and stressed that these meetings would contribute to developing the field of medical education and research at the University and in Palestine.

The Faculty of Medicine shall hold a workshop in which those concerned participants will present draft research projects to be discussed, refined, and then launched, within the framework of consolidating the culture of medical research in the Faculty of Medicine as well as its teaching hospitals.
