Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Hamdi Abu Helow in the Cyber Security Program

Researcher Hamdi Yasser Abu Helow, a student in the Master’s Program in Cyber Security, has defended his thesis titled “Detection and Prediction of Ransomware Based on Network Behavior Using Machine Learning”.

The use of the Internet has become a daily thing that a person can easily practice through several means, such as desktop and laptop computers, mobile phones, as well as many home devices. This widespread use has led to a significant increase in various electronic attacks, perhaps the most famous and dangerous of which are ransomware viruses. The danger of these viruses lies in the targets they seek to attack, as they are not limited to ordinary people, but rather they attack hospitals, private and government institutions, companies, educational institutions, and many other targets.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Fayrouz Maslamani in the Educational Psychology Program

Researcher Fayrouz Ahmad Maslamani, a student in the master’s program in educational psychology, has defended her thesis titled “Tendency to Fun and its Relationship to Addiction to Social Networking Sites and the Extent of its Impact on Academic Achievement among a Sample of University Students in the Northern West Bank.”

The study aimed to identify the tendency to fun and its relationship to addiction to social networking sites and the extent of its impact on academic achievement among a sample of university students in the northern West Bank. The researcher followed the descriptive, correlational approach and applied it to a sample of (300) male and female students from universities in the northern West Bank, distributed among the Arab American University, An-Najah National University, and Palestine Technical University – Karoorie.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Lilian Atili in the Integrated Digital Media Program

Researcher Lilian Romel Atili, a student in the Master’s program in Integrated Digital Media, has defended her thesis titled “Representations of Women in the Palestinian Contemporary Cinema.”

This study explores the representation of Palestinian women in contemporary Palestinian films, by analyzing how these films depict women’s roles, images, social roles, and their contribution to the narrative. This study employs a theoretical framework consisting of the Bechdel test, Todorov's narrative, and Stuart Hall's representations. The researcher analyzed ten Palestinian films that won awards and were nominated at major film festivals.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Rania Jaser in the Leadership Program

Researcher Rania Imad Jaser, a student in the Master’s Program in Leadership has defended her thesis titled "The Role of CSR of Palestinian Private Sector in mitigating the impact of COVID-19".

The statement of the study’s problem revolved around answering a main question about the extent to which the private sector has adopted corporate social responsibility and the extent of its impact on mitigating the consequences of the Corona pandemic.

Researcher Ibtisam Riyad Younis, a student in the master’s program in neonatal nursing, has defended her thesis titled "Effect of Intensive Phototherapy in Decreasing Need for Blood Exchange in Neonatal Jaundice in Palestine".

The present study aims to evaluate the relationship between the use of intensive phototherapy and reducing the need for blood exchange in neonatal jaundice in the West Bank, Palestine. A retrospective descriptive and quantitative study design was conducted in tertiary care hospitals (governmental and private) in northern West Bank that have neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and treatment of hyperbilirubinemia with intensive phototherapy and blood exchange.

Researcher Haneen Noman Jaradat, a student in the Master’s Program in Physics, has defended her thesis titled "Relaxation Dynamics in Quantum-dot Laser Subjected to External Effect (Optical Feedback)".

This research explores quantum-dot lasers that use quantum dots as active materials. Quantum-dot lasers operate based on tight confinement of charge carriers in quantum-dots, where a wide range of applications in medical imaging, sensing, quantum information processing and optical communications are found. Due to its vital role in disease treatment and optical imaging, in addition to its high capacity in data processing, new approaches are being used to improve its performance.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Ahlam Abdullah in the Contemporary Public Relations Program

Researcher Ahlam Ibrahim Abdullah, a student in the Master’s program in Contemporary Public Relations, has defended her thesis titled “Religious Diplomacy: Framing Israeli Propaganda for the Abraham Accords via Social Media Platforms.”

This study aimed to identify how Israel frames the Abraham Accords religiously through its digital propaganda directed to the Arab public, on the “People of the Book” platforms on YouTube and “Israel in the Gulf” on Twitter. The reason for choosing two platforms that differ in identity and content is the importance of researching the framing mechanisms and appeals that Israel employs to address the Arab public through its direct and indirect propaganda.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Rawan Obaid in the Molecular Genetics and Genetic Toxicology Program

Researcher Rawan Nael Obaid, a student in the Master’s program in Molecular Genetics and Genetic Toxicology, has defended her thesis titled "Functional Assessment of a Novel Mutation (SMAD4, p. Cys115Arg) in Palestinian Patient with Colorectal Cancer".

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of death worldwide. In the State of Palestine, it is the second most common cancer after breast cancer. Because of this widespread prevalence, detecting the causes of colon cancer has become essential. Genetic tests have become one of the most important and advanced methods for detecting cancer and to help determine the course of treatment. In this study, next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology was used to identify genetic variants that contribute to tumors in colorectal cancer.

Researcher Firas Jamal Diab, a student in the master’s program in educational psychology, has defended his thesis titled “Psychological Alienation and Its Relationship to Psychosocial Security among a Sample of University Students in the Northern Governorates of the West Bank.”

The present study aimed to know the level of psychological alienation and its relationship to psychosocial security among a sample of university students in the northern governorates of the West Bank. It also aims to investigate those differences and variations that may be contributed to, from the researcher’s point of view, by some variables, such as gender, place of residence, academic specialization, educational level, and university name.

Defense of a Master’s Thesis by Iman Ragheb in the Strategic Planning and Fundraising Program

Researcher Iman Hassan Ragheb, a student in the Master’s Program in Strategic Planning and Fundraising, has defended her thesis titled “Examining the Effectiveness of Social Studies Curriculum and Teachers Perceptions’ of the Value System for Seventh and Eighth Grades in Palestine: A Proposed Model".

The study examines the effectiveness of the Palestinian educational system in instilling good values among students, comparing seventh and eighth grade textbooks. The study reveals that the seventh grade textbook shows a higher degree of value system inclusion compared to the eighth grade textbook. It also reveals distinct patterns in integrating moral, religious, social, and national values into school textbooks. The seventh grade book excels in its coverage of moral, religious, social, and national values to a greater extent over the eighth book.
