Announcement of the Launch of the Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research 2023

The Arab American University announced the launch of the “Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research 2023”, as a continuation of its efforts to support scientific research, encourage researchers, excellence, and creativity, and enhance the university pioneering role in supporting scientific research in Palestine.

The Dean of Scientific Research at the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awad, said; "Through this award, the university seeks to enhance the quality of practical research for academic staff members and researchers in Palestinian universities, in addition to supporting original scientific research. Researchers are rewarded in recognition of their scientific efforts and published research in scientific journals with a distinguished reputation and a prestigious international classification”.

The Arab American University Wins the Second Place in the Scientific Research Award in the Field of Physical Sciences

Dr. Ahmed Hasasneh, a lecturer at the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Head of the Data Science Department at the Arab American University, won the second place for the 2022 second scientific research award in the physical sciences field, presented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for studies related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects.

The researcher was rewarded at a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research under the auspices of Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, with the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abu Mowais.

The researcher Hassasna’s paper is entitled “Wearable Devices, Smartphones, and Interpretable Artificial Intelligence in Combating COVID-19”. It was published in the Swiss Sensors Journal, which is listed in the first quarter journals with an impact factor of 3.847.

AAUP Participates in a Forum in the Spanish City of Granada

A delegation of PhD students in Conflict Resolution and academics from the Department of Social Sciences from the Arab American University participated in the "Strengthening National Research Capacities in the Field of Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation" forum, which was held in the Spanish city of Granada, as part of the Erasmus project funded by the European Union.

The developments of the concept of resolving the conflict and its repercussions on the Palestinian situation were discussed in the forum as well as the relationship between conflict and various aspects such as climate, women, human rights, water and natural resources, and others.

Representatives from different departments at the University of Granada and representatives from the German Friedrich Schiller University participated in the forum.

AAUP Participates in an International Scientific Cooperation in which a New Gene Related to Brain Development and Genetic Disorders in Humans is Discovered

The scientific work, published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, describes the clinical outcomes of seven patients from five different families, all with mutations in the gene called calmodulin-regulated spectrin-associated protein 1 (CAMSAP1) which causes this rare genetic disease. The genetic alterations in CAMSAP1 lead to abnormalities in neuronal structural proteins, which have an important role in regulating neuronal division and movement during brain development.

Two Researchers from the University Discover a method to Diagnose Disorders and Skin Diseases Using Millimeter Wave Sensors

Two researchers from the Arab American University have come up with an innovative method for non-invasive diagnosis of skin diseases and disorders without the need for healthcare professionals or a medical clinic.

This study is considered the first of its kind. The innovative method of the two researchers from the Arab American University, Dr. Amani Owda, Head of the Department of Engineering, Natural, and Technological Sciences at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and co-researcher Dr. Majdi Owda, Dean of Faculty of Data Science, is based on diagnosis by measuring millimeter waves that emerge from human skin and produce invisible signatures that contribute to inferring the health of the skin.

Two Academicians from the University Win the “Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for 2022”

Two academics from the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Atef Qasrawi, and Prof. Dr. Hazem Khanfar, won the "Arab American University Award for Excellence in Scientific Research for 2022". The names of the winners of this award for the current year were announced by the Deanship of Scientific Research at the university.

The Dean of Scientific Research at the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awad, said that researchers from Palestinian universities competed for the award. They presented scientific research in the fields of natural Sciences, engineering and technological sciences, medical and health sciences, and social and human sciences. He explained that after examining the nomination applications for the award and evaluating them from a specialized committee, it was decided that two papers from each category would win.

The Internationally Refereed Scientific Journal Vaccines Publishes a Research by the Arab American University on the Spread of the Corona Virus Antibodies

The internationally refereed scientific journal Vaccines, which is classified as Q1 with an impact factor of 5, published a research by researchers from the Arab American University on the prevalence of coronavirus antibodies and the factors affecting them among adults in the West Bank.

The researchers from the university, Dr. Faisal Awartani (as a main author), Dr. Nawar Qutub, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asia, cooperated to publish the research on the prevalence of antibodies to the Corona virus in the Palestinian society and the factors affecting it in the internationally refereed journal Vaccines.

The Arab American University and the Scholar Institute for Research and Studies in Iraq Conclude the Fourth International Conference

The Arab American University and the Scholar Institute for Research and Studies in Iraq concluded the fourth international conference entitled "Modern Trends in International Relations, Media, and Social and Educational Sciences", which was organized in Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Turkey, over two days.

The director of the conference, Dr. Muayad Abusaa, the Vice President of the Arab American University for Academic Affairs, said that more than 130 researchers in various disciplines participated in the conference, representing twenty Arab, Islamic and international countries. He indicated that the conference focused on several topics, most notably law, international relations, historical studies, Management, economics, social studies, linguistic, and literary studies.

The University and the French University of Lille Are Studying the Effect of Extracts of Middle Eastern Plants in the Treatment of Diabetic Patients

The Faculty of Sciences at the Arab American University received a delegation from the Crystal Institute for Biocomputing affiliated to the University of Lille in France, within the framework of Al Maqdisi Scholarship. The two teams are studying the effect of extracts extracted from Middle Eastern medicinal plants in the treatment of diabetic patients, and working on central proteins in this context.

The delegation of the French University of Lille included the president of the institution, Prof. Dr. Cedric Al-Husseini, and Dr. Joachim Nairn, who were received by the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Siba Shanak, Prof. Dr. Hilal Zaid, from the Faculty of Medicine, and laboratory technicians in the Faculties of Sciences and Medicine.

AAUP Master Student Wins the 2nd Place in the Islamic Palestinian Bank Award for Scientific Research

Nael Abed Aljabar Zaidan, a researcher and  computer science student at The Arab American University, won the second place in the Islamic Palestinian Bank Award for scientific research for the year 2021-2022.

During a celebration that was organized by the ministry of higher education and scientific research, and the Islamic Palestinian Bank at the national institute for educational training,  it was announced that the researcher won second place and he received a reward in the presence of The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Prof. Mahmoud Abu Mowais and the director of the Islamic Palestinian Bank Dr. Emad Alsadi.
